The fan part is made of Vermillion's original tenugui, which is light and durable.
The trademark Fushimi Inari Torii gate and foxes are eye-catching designs.
This is a “Kyo-uchiwa”, characterized by the many bamboo bones inside the ground paper.
【What is ”Kyo-uchiwa”?】
Uchiwa fans are made in Kyoto Prefecture. Originating from Korean fans, they were brought to Japan from the continent around the 14th century by pirates.
They are said to have originated in Fushimi Fukakusa, Kyoto.
Called "Miyako Uchiwa", they were favored by court nobles.
After the Edo period (1603-1867), it these uchiwa became popular among the common people, and have been used to this day.
